Learn to improvise in different styles/genres of theater so you can add variety and range to your scene work. In this workshop, you’ll explore Shakespeare, American Realism (Williams, Miller, Inge), and Absurdist plays (Beckett, Ionesco, Genet). Kristen will help you draw on the tropes, characteristics, and common themes inherent to each style and use them to create scenes that feel like they were written by a famous playwright.

If you were ever curious about learning the Brody style of patient and artistic play, this is a great place to start!

Kerry Leek says that from the first moment she saw improv, she knew it was going to be her true love. Throughout her 20+ year tenure at the Brody Theater, she performed, taught, directed, and ran the education department, becoming a beloved teacher of countless Portland improvisers. Kerry has traveled and performed across the United States, Canada, and Europe and has been a proud member of groups including Broad Selection, The Narrows, Future Cool, and Nepotism. Kerry’s improv philosophy is very rooted in mutual respect, relationship-based scene work, and the sense that the audience sees more on stage than an improviser ever will.
